What are laminated bags and how are they categorized?

Laminated bags are used in the industry for packing various materials and goods. They come in various shapes and sizes and are custom made according to the needs of the customer. The materials used to manufacture these bags vary depending on what kind and type of materials is to be packed in them. Also, many companies print their company logos on these laminated bags, for promoting their company products.

What are the different categories of laminated bags?

PP Bags/laminated bags are classified depending on the features they have and materials used:
Biaxially Orientated Polypropylene or BOPP bags – first layer of the bag is the fabric, on top of which lamination is done. BOPP film is usually printed and then added on top of lamination. High-end technology, engraved cylinders and Rotogravures reverse printing are used to enable many colours to be printed on the bags.
  • Polypropylene bags – Materials used in these is 100% PP (Polypropylene) granules. They are available in various colors, cut or hemmed; the bottom can be single or double stitch and single or double layer fold. Printing on them can be done till 4 colors. PP lamination helps the bag to keep away moisture. Paper lamination can also be done for a nice print and strength.
  • Bags with Liners – Liners made of High Density Poly Ethylene (HDPE) or Low Density Poly Ethylene (LDPE) are used in the bags. The top of the bags are sometimes sealed with plastic to hold the liners in place.
  • Gusseted bags – The sides of these bags get folded here so that when products are filled inside, they give a shape to the bags. The bags are either in printed form or clear transparent types so that the materials inside can be displayed.
  • UV stabilized bags – Bags undergo the UV stabilization process to make them more durable and increase their lifespan.

You can also choose from the laminated, the valve and the paper bags:

  • Laminated bags– Laminated or coated bags contain a thin layer of poly film to make the bags more durable and save them from humidity. The lamination is applied on either side of the bag; inside or outside. These are used to pack products that can absorb moisture from air and get damaged.
  • Valve bags – As the name suggests these bags have a small valve at the corner through which product can be filled in. The opening is made in such a way that it closes automatically after filling is complete. The valve is again done in two ways; plain or has an inner extension which needs manual help to be closed.
  • Paper bags – Paper bags can also be made durable and strong with multiple layering. First it contains the PP fabric, and then comes the PP lamination and finally good quality paper. The laminated bags are made to resist tear and puncture.  Multilayer paper bags, woven PP SOM paper bags and BOPP woven PP SOM paper bags are some of the varieties.
HDPE (High Density Poly Ethylene) / PP (Poly Propylene) Fabric bags – The fabrics are manufactured either laminated or un-laminated. The fabric can also be coated or remain uncoated. The thickness on lamination can also vary depending on requirement. They can also have UV stabilization. The laminated/ non-laminated bags are available in many colors too and customized design can be made as per need. The bags can be made into various shapes as per demand and specification.

There are different types and variations of laminated bags that are used for different purposes, in various types of industries. You can also open a manufacturing unit for these laminated bags, if you want to consider a business purpose.
